The Australian cricket team reclaimed the prestigious Border-Gavaskar Trophy after a decade-long wait with their 3-1 win over travelling India in the 2024-25 edition of the rivalry series down under.

And one of the highlights for the hosts from the five-match series was the emergence of 19-year-old firecracker Sam Konstas, who claimed the headlines for reasons both good and bad.

The youngster brought his fearless brand of cricket as he took the most decorated pacer of modern times, Jasprit Bumrah, for runs and how. The Aussie batter smashed the seasoned Indian seamer for boundaries with some conventional strokeplay with a dash of creativity including a reverse ramp.

However, trifling with Bumrah could prove to be a double-edged sword as the youngster realised on the second day of the final Test between the sides. Konstas riled up the Indian pacer, who reacted with vengeance as he dismissed Usman Khawaja on the very last ball of the day and celebrated right in front of Konstas.

The Australian batter recently revealed that he was the one who riled the seamer up and copped to the incident.

“Oh, I didn’t get too fazed,” Konstas said.

“Unfortunately, Uzi got out. He was trying to buy some time a little bit,” the teenager added.

“It was probably my fault, but it happens. It’s cricket,” he continued.

“Credit to Bumrah. He got the wicket, but obviously great performance from the team,” he stated.

Konstas was also involved in a tiff with former Indian skipper Virat Kohli following a collision between the two in the game earlier. While the experienced Kohli received the brunt of the blame as many called out the star Indian batter’s attempt to bully the 19-year-old in order to throw him off his game.

Kohli was slapped with a fine accounting for 20 per cent of his match fee and a docked point.

Australia sealed their place in the final of the World Test Championship with their resounding win and skipper Pat Cummins and Co. will look to get their hands on the coveted piece of silverware.
