Former England pacer Chris Tremlett hopes to see the best versions of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in India’s next Test series. The duo is currently playing their trade in the Indian Premier League (IPL). After the franchise competition is over, Team India will travel to England for a five-match Test series, slated to start on June 20. Rohit and Kohli have a lot to prove in the bilateral assignments. They were unable to showcase their A-game in the last few Test series. Tremlett, who picked 53 wickets in 12 Tests, expects Rohit and Kohli to bounce back in the England tour.

“I have always admired Rohit and Virat. I know they were not impressive in the last few series, but they are still great players. It wouldn’t surprise me if Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma score runs at an average of 50-60 in the England series,” Tremlett said during an interview with RevSportz.

The 43-year-old further opined that Rohit and Kohli should have gained a confidence boost after leading India to their third Champions Trophy earlier this year.

Kohli finished as the fifth-highest scorer of the multilateral tournament, registering 218 runs at an average of 54.50. Rohit also made some valuable contributions as an opener. He aggregated 180 runs in five outings while averaging 36.

“Virat and Rohit found some form in the ICC Champions Trophy. I know it was a different format, but that’s not going to bother them. They will try to be ultra-aggressive in England. You can’t doubt great players like them. They can achieve big things even after going through low periods,” Tremlett explained.

Rohit and Kohli last donned the whites for India in the 2024-25 Border Gavaskar Trophy. Except for a hundred in Perth, Kohli was unable to produce anything significant in the five-match series, which Australia won 3-1. Rohit missed the campaign opener and failed miserably in the next three games. The Indian captain dropped himself from the playing eleven in the fifth and final Test, which India lost by six wickets.

Kohli has been scintillating in the ongoing IPL. The Royal Challengers Bengaluru star has already scored 248 runs, including three half-centuries. Rohit, on the other hand, has mostly played as an impact sub for Mumbai Indians. He has managed 82 runs in his six outings.
