Jasprit Bumrah is back in the captain’s shoes and bowling coach Morne Morkel believes that the ace India pacer will not only lead the pace attack brilliantly but also the team.

Jasprit Bumrah is all set to lead India in the first Test against Australia in Perth, starting Friday. The ace pacer was initially named as Rohit Sharma’s deputy in the squad. Now that Rohit has decided to miss the first Test and be with his family after the birth of his son, Bumrah will take charge against the Australians.
Leading India in Perth will be Bumrah’s second outing as the Test captain. Back in 2022, he led the Indian team in the rescheduled 5th Test against England as Rohit couldn’t make it due to an injury. India lost the game by 7 wickets but drew the 5-match series 2-2.
After two years, the speedster is back in the captain’s shoes and bowling coach Morne Morkel believes that Bumrah will not only lead the pace attack brilliantly but also the team.
“Jassi [Jasprit Bumrah] was a guy who immediately put his hand up and he wanted that leadership role. He’s been very successful here in the past. He knows what to expect. In the dressing room, he speaks well. And he’s a guy who I know that, with the ball in hand, will lead from the front and then the rest of the younger guys will follow,” Morkel told media on Wednesday.
“It’s an exciting sort of challenge ahead for him. But we’ve got to be right. We’ve got a lot of experienced guys who will help him. And I’m sure when he’s bowling and a million things are going on in his head that will settle and bring a bit of calmness into the team.
“But in terms of leadership and in terms of how he looks at the game and produces the game, he’s a natural leader for me with training. Let’s see how we go about our business here,” he added.
