Bumrah has picked up 50 wickets for India in 11 matches played so far in the ongoing 2023-25 edition of the World Test Championship.
Star Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah is on fire in the ongoing first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy between India and Australia, which is currently underway at the Optus Stadium in Perth. The 30-year-old fast bowler, who is leading India in the absence of Rohit Sharma, picked up four wickets on Day 1 of the match and he completed his five-wicket haul by getting rid of Alex Carey on the first ball of his spell on the second day.
The Australian wicketkeeper-batter was caught behind by Rishabh Pant, who now has 99 dismissals to his name in the World Test Championship. By taking Carey’s wicket in the morning session of the second day’s play, Bumrah not only completed his first five-wicket haul as India captain but also became the first Indian pacer to take 50 wickets in a single edition of the WTC.
Before Bumrah, only Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja managed to take more than 50 wickets in one edition of the WTC. While Ashwin has crossed the 50-wicket mark in all three editions of WTC played so far, Jadeja crossed the 50-wicket mark in the ongoing WTC 2023-25 cycle.
