Star Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah was ruled out of the Champions Trophy 2025 on February 11 due to a lower back injury that he suffered while playing for India in the fifth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 against Australia in Sydney. The world No. 1 Test bowler’s absence was a big setback for Team India ahead of the start of the tournament. Bumrah was in red-hot form for India last year. He accounted for the dismissal of 71 batters in 13 Tests and 15 batters in eight T20Is played in 2024.
Bumrah, who is an integral part of the Indian team in all three formats of the game, has returned to bowling in the nets. Bumrah’s IPL franchise Mumbai Indians, took to Instagram on Thursday, February 27, to share a video of him bowling in the nets and shattering stumps.
Bumrah was retained for Rs 18 crore by the Mumbai-based franchise ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction last year. The 31-year-old fast bowler from Ahmedabad is all set to lead MI’s pace attack in the 18th edition of the Indian Premier League, which is set to start on March 22 in Kolkata.
Mumbai will face arch-rivals Chennai Super Kings in the first match of IPL 2025 on March 23 in Chennai.
Bumrah made his IPL debut for Mumbai Indians in the 2013 season and has been associated with the franchise since then. He missed the 2023 edition of the world’s richest franchise cricket league due to a back injury that he suffered while playing in the ODI series against England in July 2023.
Bumrah’s return to action is good news not just for MI but also for Team India. The ICC Cricketer of the Year 2024 will be a key player for India in the five-match Test series against England that starts on June 20 in Leeds.
