Star Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah, who is also leading the visitors in the ongoing fifth Test against Australia at Sydney Cricket Ground, was seen leaving the SCG in training kit on Saturday (January 4), and according to broadcasters, the 31-year-old cricketer has headed to the hospital for the scans.
Bumrah, who has 32 wickets to his name in the ongoing five-match series, only bowled one over in the second session of the second day’s play.
“He just bowled that one over after lunch, and at that point he decided to leave the ground,” Adam Gilchrist said on Fox Cricket.
“It’s such a shame, and the body language and lack of enthusiasm and voice from India since that moment, it’s quite obvious something is amiss here. That would be devastating, not just as far as this Test match but also the outcome of this series.”
Bumrah, who picked up the first wicket for India on Saturday, was accompanied by the team doctor and security liaison officer.
“That’s huge news,” Kerry O’Keeffe said on Fox Cricket.
“This could have a massive bearing on the series,” Ravi Shastri said on Fox Cricket.
“It’s horrible news, isn’t it? That’s a massive moment in this series,” Brett Lee added.
Bumrah’s performance in 5th Test
Bumrah, who is leading the Indian team in the final match of the tour, scored 22 runs from 17 balls as a No. 10 batter on Friday. During his stay at the crease, he hammered 3 fours and one six. The 31-year-old batter added 20 runs for the ninth wicket with Prasidh Krishna (3) and 17 runs for the 10th wicket with Mohammed Siraj (3).
Thanks to his valuable contribution with the bat, India managed to score 185 runs in the first innings. Bumrah, who sits at No. 1 position in the ICC Test bowler’s ranking, helped India get off to a flying start with the ball as well, and on the last ball of the first day’s play, he dismissed Australian opener Usman Khawaja. The left-handed batter was caught by KL Rahul in the second slip.
Bumrah maintained his ace form on Saturday as well and removed Marnus Labuschagne for 2 runs in the fourth over of the morning session.
