Bumrah, who has dismissed 49 batters in 10 Tests played so far in 2024, needs one more wicket to become second Indian pacer after Zaheer Khan to get rid of 50 Test batters in a calendar year.
World No. 1 Test bowler Jasprit Bumrah was on fire for India in the first Test of the ongoing five-match series played against Australia at Optus Stadium in Perth last month. The 30-year-old fast bowler picked up five wickets in the first innings and accounted for the dismissal of three Aussie batters in the second. For his super show with the ball, Bumrah won Player of the Match in Perth. The right-arm pacer, who has 181 wickets to his name in 41 Tests played so far, would like to maintain his red-hot form in the second Test of the 2024-25 edition of Border-Gavaskar Trophy as well and come up with a big show for India at the Adelaide Oval.
During the second Test between India and Australia, which is set to start on Friday (December 6), Bumrah will have a chance to join legendary Zaheer Khan in an elite list. Bumrah, who has picked up 49 wickets in 10 Tests played so far in 2024, needs one more wicket to complete a half-century of Test dismissals in 2024 and if the manages to do so then he will also become the second Indian fast bowler after Zaheer to take more than 50 Test wickets in a calendar year.
Zaheer, who finished his Test career with 311 wickets in 92 Tests for India, dismissed 51 batters in 15 Tests played in 2002.
The overall record of dismissing most batters for India in Tests in a calendar year is in the name of Kapil Dev. The former all-rounder accounted for the dismissal of 75 batters in 18 Tests played in 1983. Dev also occupies the No. 2 position with 74 wickets to his name in 17 Tests played in 1979.
