Jasprit Bumrah needs five wickets to reach a unique milestone in the World Test Championship.
India’s pace spearhead and captain for the opening Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series, Jasprit Bumrah can create history in the upcoming tour Down Under.
The fast-bowler has taken his game to a new level, becoming India’s go-to man to get a wicket any any stage of a game. The pacer is now five wickets away from reaching the 50-wicket milestone for the 2023-25 season of the World Test Championship. He would become the first Indian fast-bowler to the milestone as well.

The fast bowler has already equalled his record from the previous edition and will have five more matches to ensure that he gets to the milestone. With Australia proving to be favourable for the quicker bowlers, Bumrah will be key in India’s chances of getting to that third consecutive series victory over the Aussies Down Under and also extending their winning streak of having retained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy as well.
The 30-year-old is currently the sixth-ranked bowler amongst all bowlers in the ongoing season of the WTC. His ability to weave magic with the new and old ball makes him an undeniable force who cannot be taken lightly at any point.
But now he will have an additional responsibility where he would have to lead the side in Rohit Sharma’s absence for the opening Test at the Optus Stadium in Perth.
Bumrah’s leadership will be key in helping the side keep their hopes of securing a spot in the ongoing season of the WTC. After the series whitewash on home soil against New Zealand, India now has the tough task of winning four and drawing one out of the five Tests in Australia to confirm their spot for a third consecutive WTC final.
But Australia will not back down as the side led by Pat Cummins will be desperate to reclaim the elusive Border-Gavaskar Trophy which has eluded them for the past 10 years. But Bumrah could be the difference between India winning or losing the series.
