A report has claimed Jasprit Bumrah’s comeback date ahead of the 2025 Champions Trophy.

Jasprit Bumrah’s return date has been revealed.
Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah is reportedly set to return to international cricket in the third bilateral ODI against England on February 12 in Ahmedabad. The series will begin with five T20Is on January 22 — which he’ll skip — and will be followed by three ODIs, starting on February 6.
According to ESPNcricinfo, Bumrah will ‘test his fitness’ in the fixture, with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) hoping that it proves his fitness for the 2025 Champions Trophy, where India’s campaign starts on February 20.
The report said Bumrah’s injury was ‘stress-related’ which happened due to his excessive workload in the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. It added that Bumrah’s initial tests didn’t show any ‘stress fracture’ in the back, which would come as a huge relief to the BCCI.
Chief selector Ajit Agarkar was the first to give an official update on the star player on Saturday while announcing the squads for the ODI series and the multi-nation tournament. He said Bumrah’s participation against England wasn’t confirmed and thus, the team had pace all-rounder Harshit Rana as the cover.
“I know he was asked to offload for five weeks of bowling, which is early first week of February if I’m not wrong,” Agarkar said in Mumbai. “And we’ll probably find out a bit more around that time what exactly and with regards to what his medical condition is. I’m sure BCCI might just put something out from the physio itself. It’s better it comes from the medical department than me trying to explain what exactly is wrong with him. But that’s the time frame that we’ve been told. And hopefully, he’s okay after that.”
Bumrah suffered the injury in the final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and couldn’t bowl in the last innings at the Sydney Cricket Gound. Speculation was rife over his fitness over the past couple of weeks.
This news would come as a huge positive for India. Mohammed Shami and Arshdeep Singh are the team’s other pace options for the Champions Trophy. The former is coming back from an even bigger injury layoff while the latter isn’t an ODI regular.
