Indian captain Jasprit Bumrah dismissed Australian opener Usman Khawaja (2 runs from 10 balls) on the last ball of Day 1’s play of the ongoing fifth India-Australia Test at Sydney Cricket Ground, and after taking his wicket, the 31-year-old cricketer celebrated in an aggressive manner, the video of which is now going viral on the internet.
After KL Rahul completed Khawaja’s catch in the second slip on the last ball of the third over on Friday (January 3), Bumrah turned his attention to Sam Konstas’ and celebrated aggressively in front of him.
Here’s a look:
Bumrah’s reaction came after he and Konstas got engaged in a verbal battle during the third over.
Khawaja’s wicket was Bumrah’s 31st dismissal in the ongoing series, and by taking 31 wickets, he has equalled former India captain and legendary spinner Bishan Singh Bedi’s record of taking the most wickets in a Test series played between India and Australia in Australia.
Bedi, who finished his Test career with 266 wickets in 67 matches, dismissed 31 batters in five Tests of the India-Australia series in 1977-78. Former Australian pacer Craig McDermott also dismissed 31 batters in the India-Australia Test series played in 1991-92. If Bumrah manages to take one more wicket in the ongoing match, then he will take the No. 1 position.
The overall record for taking the most wickets in a Test series between India and Australia is in the name of Harbhajan Singh, who, during the 2001 series in India, accounted for the dismissal of 32 Aussie batters in three matches.
