Star Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah, who will lead India’s bowling attack in the upcoming five-match Test series against Australia, took to Instagram on Sunday (November 10) to post a picture of him with legendary South African pacer Dale Steyn. The 30-year-old Indian pacer captioned the post “Goat,” and within no time the picture went viral on the internet.

Steyn, who retired from international cricket in 2021, is one of the greatest bowlers of all time, and he holds the record for taking most wickets in the five-day format of the game for the Proteas.

Bumrah never got a chance to share a dressing room with Steyn during his playing days, as the South African never played for the Mumbai Indians in the IPL, and Bumrah has only played for the Mumbai-based franchise in the cash-rich league.

Bumrah to captain India

Bumrah, who has 32 wickets to his name in seven Tests played so far against Australia, is all set to lead India in the first Test of the 2024-25 edition of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. India’s Test captain Rohit Sharma is doubtful for the series opener due to personal reasons.

Bumrah has served as India’s Test captain once in the past. He made his leadership debut against England during the rescheduled match played at Edgbaston from July 1 to 5 in 2022. In that match, India failed to defend the target of 378 runs in the fourth inning of the match and went on to lose the fixture by seven wickets.

India has won the last two editions of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy played on Australian soil, and the world No. 2 Test side, which also sits at No. 2 position in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 points table, will be eager to complete the hat-trick this time around.

India needs to win four of the five matches against Australia to confirm its place in the WTC 2025 final, which is scheduled to take place at Lord’s in June next year.

India has played the WTC final in 2021 and 2023 but went down by 8 wickets and 209 runs against New Zealand and Australia, respectively.
