The highly anticipated mega-auction ahead of the 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to be held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on 24th and 25th November 2024
According to a release sent by the IPL, Jeddah would play host to arguably one of the most exciting player auctions in the tournament’s history
All 10 franchises announced their retentions on October 31, now the teams would look to prepare themselves to find out the players they can target to bolster their squad.
Several big names from Indian and international cricket have been released from their respective sides which could see franchises associated with a new group of players to make the tournament even more exciting.
The likes of Rishabh Pant, Arshdeep Singh, Shreyas Iyer, and KL Rahul are among the top Indian players that will be up for grabs in the upcoming auction. Among the overseas stars, Mitchell Starc, Glenn Maxwell, and Jos Buttler are the few who were released by their respective franchise
The teams retained a total of 46 players, investing a cumulative sum of Rs 558.5 crore. Out of them, 24 are capped Indian players, 12 are uncapped Indian players and 10 are overseas stars. With the release of Iyer, Pant and Rahul, three elite Indian captaincy options are now available for teams seeking new leadership.
Each franchise will have a fairly unique approach to the auction with some needing a unique set of skills while others could look to go after some of the biggest talents.
With each franchise allowed a maximum squad size of 25 players, a total of 204 slots are available for bidding at the upcoming auction. As the teams prepare for strategic bidding, the intense competition among this vast pool of talent promises an exciting auction for the IPL 2025 season.
Each franchise was allocated Rs 120 crore to build their squads but after the retention process, which was announced on October 31, Punjab Kings have the biggest purse — Rs 110.5 crore.
The Punjab outfit retained just two uncapped players — Shashank Singh and Prabhsimran Singh for Rs 9.5 crore.
Rajasthan Royals, under Sanju Samson, have the smallest purse of Rs 41 crore after retaining six players.
The Kolkata Knight Riders have also retained six players but they have a remaining purse of Rs 51 crore.
