Rodrigues came out to bat at No. 4 for India in the 2nd ODI against Ireland and, with the help of 12 fours, scored 102 runs from 91 balls.
Star Indian middle-order batter Jemimah Rodrigues on Sunday (January 12) ended her long wait of scoring her maiden century for India. The 24-year-old cricketer from Mumbai scored 102 runs from 91 balls for India in Rajkot during the second ODI of the ongoing three-match series against Ireland. She came out to bat at No. 4 for the Smriti Mandhana-led side at Niranjan Shah Stadium, and during her stay at the crease, she hammered 12 fours. She crossed the triple-figure mark with a boundary on the second ball of the 50th over of India’s innings, which was bowled by Arlene Kelly.
After scoring her maiden ODI century, Jemimah came up with a guitar celebration, the video of which is now going viral on the internet. She received a standing ovation from her teammates after achieving a personal milestone.
Jemimah, however, failed to build on her century and was dismissed on the third ball of the 50th over. Before returning back to the dugout, the right-handed batter added 183 runs for the third wicket with Harleen Deol. Harleen also impressed with her batting show in the second ODI of the bilateral series and, with the help of 12 fours, scored 89 runs from 84 balls.
Jemimah is the overall 13th Indian batter to score an ODI century. Thanks to her brilliant show with the bat, India managed to post a total of 370 runs on the board for the loss of five wickets.
The 370-run total is India’s highest score in the 50-over format of the game. The Mandhana-led side broke the previous record of 358 runs, which the Indian women’s cricket team has scored twice.
The second ODI is a must-win match for the Irish team to keep the chances of winning the series alive. The Gaby Lewis-led side went down by 7 wickets in the series opener played at the same venue on Friday, January 10.
Before Jemimah and Harleen, captain Mandhana and her opening partner Pratika Rawal also scored half-centuries. While Smriti hammered 73 runs from 54 balls, Rawal smashed 67 runs from just 61 balls. The duo added 156 runs for the first wicket in 19 overs.
