Root has scored 11 centuries in 33 Tests played so far against India. He is the second batter in the world after Steve Smith to cross the 100-run mark 11 times in Tests vs. India.

Joe Root is England’s highest run scorer in Test cricket, and on Friday (July 10), he equalled Steve Smith’s record of scoring the most Test centuries against India. The 34-year-old right-handed batter from Yorkshire crossed the 100-run mark for the 11th time in Tests against India on Friday.
Root needed one run on Friday to complete his century, and he achieved the objective by hitting four on the first ball of the first over of the second day’s play bowled by world No. 1 Test bowler Jasprit Bumrah.
The ongoing third India-England Test at Lord’s is Root’s 33rd Test against India, and he has 3055 runs to his name.
Smith, on the other hand, has played 24 Tests against India, and he also has scored 11 centuries.

The century in the first innings of Lord’s Test also helped Root take his tally of centuries to 37 in Test cricket, which is one more than Smith’s 36.
Only Sachin Tendulkar (51), Jacques Kallis (45), Ricky Ponting (41), and Kumar Sangakkara (38) have scored more Test centuries than Root.

Before completing his century on Friday, Root equalled Kallis and Ponting’s record of 103 50+ scores in Test cricket on Thursday. Only Sachin Tendulkar of India has crossed the 50-run mark in Test cricket more times than Root now.

During his stay at the crease on Thursday, Root also completed 3000 runs in Tests against the Indian team. Root is the first batter in the world to score more than 3000 runs in the five-day format of the game against the Indian men’s cricket team. He needed 45 runs in the first innings to complete 3000 Test runs against India, and he achieved the objective by hitting Nitish Kumar Reddy for a four on the third ball of the 44th over.
