The Indian team management was concerned after their senior batter, KL Rahul left the field after being struck on the elbow during their preparations ahead of the opening Test in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series in Australia.

A video released by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) revealed that the 32-year-old has recovered and is ready for the first Test beginning on November 22 at the Optus Stadium in Perth.

According to the team’s physios, they just had to find solutions for the pain and give him confidence when returning to practice. Reports suggested Rahul seemed to be in good touch with the bat as he dealt with the shorter deliveries, which will be prevalent in Australian conditions.

“Feeling good and batted today, getting ready for the first game. Happy that I could come here early, get some time, and get used to the conditions. I’ve got a lot of time preparing for the series and I’m excited and looking forward to it,” Rahul shared.

With Rohit Sharma likely to miss the first Test, Rahul could be the front-runner to open the batting in the skipper’s absence. His role at the top of the order will be crucial as India looks to do the impossible against the mighty Aussies.

For India to secure a spot in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 cycle, they would have to win four and draw one of the remaining five Tests, which will be a tough task as all of them would be against Australia Down Under.

Australia on the other hand, will be hungry to reclaim the Border-Gavaskar Trophy having failed to beat India for the past 10 years, a record that Pat Cummins’ side would be keen on ending.

Rahul would be keen on getting amongst the runs as well to end doubts about his place in the Test team. Despite being moved up and down the order, he would be keen on getting the bog runs against the Aussies in what would be a tightly fought contest.
