Star Indian batter KL Rahul, who was not retained by the Lucknow Super Giants ahead of the upcoming IPL 2025 mega auction, is aiming to earn his place back in India’s T20I team. According to KL, who last played a T20I match for the Men in Blue on November 10, 2022, against England in Adelaide, he knows where he stands as a player and what he needs to do to get back in the T20I team.

The 32-year-old right-handed batter is aiming to come up with a big show in the 2025 edition of IPL, which he believes can help him make a T20I comeback for India as well.

“I’ve been out of the T20 team for a while, and I know where I stand as a player and what I need to do to get back. So, I look forward to this IPL season to give me that platform to go back and enjoy my cricket, and my aim is to obviously get back into the T20 team,” he said in a video shared by Star Sports.

Rahul is one of the four Indian batters to score multiple centuries in T20Is, and with 2265 runs to his name in 72 matches played so far, he sits at No. 4 position in the list of batters with the most runs for 2024 T20 World Cup winners in the shortest format of the game.

Rahul was part of the Indian team that participated in the 2021 and 2022 editions of the T20 World Cup but was heavily criticised for his batting performances in the T20 World Cup 2022, which was played in Australia. After India suffered a humiliating defeat by 10 wickets in the semi-final of that tournament, Rahul was never considered for a place in India’s T20I side, and instead of him, the likes of Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan, and Jitesh Sharma were given opportunities by the Indian selectors and team management.

Rahul to join a new team

Rahul will go under the hammer in the IPL 2025 mega auction, which is set to take place in Jeddah on November 24 and 25. Rahul has played for RCB, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Punjab Kings, and LSG in the past, and it will be interesting to see which new team he joins in the auction. On many occasions in the past, Rahul has expressed his desire to play RCB again.
