The second semifinal of the Champions Trophy 2025, between South Africa and New Zealand is scheduled to be played at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Wednesday. Both South Africa and New Zealand have won the Champions Trophy once each in 1998 and 2000 respectively and the competition was known as the ICC Knockout Trophy back then.
The Kiwis will be aiming to pull off an inspired show this time and lift the trophy, having finished second-best twice in the ODI World Cup (2015 and 2019) and once in the T20 World Cup (2021). New Zealand registered a second-place finish in Group A of the Champions Trophy 2025, while the Proteas claimed the top spot in Group B.
Tom Latham has been in fine form for New Zealand in the ongoing edition of the Champions Trophy, having scored 187 runs in three matches. Among the bowlers, Matt Henry is the current highest wicket-taker with eight scalps.
For South Africa, players like Ryan Rickelton, Temba Bavuma, Rassie van der Dussen and Aiden Markram have been impressive with the bat. Their bowling attack comprises some prominent figures like Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi, Marco Jansen, Keshav Maharaj among others.
