Sarfaraz Ahmed commented on the futures of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli ahead of the marquee clash between India and Pakistan in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

The former Pakistan skipper, Sarfaraz Ahmed feels that both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli deserve to take the call regarding their future in international cricket after their stellar performances for the nation over the years.
Questions have been on the rise regarding Rohit and Kohli and their chances of being good enough for international cricket in the coming years. With age not on their side, many have questioned whether it is time for the duo to call times on their careers.
But Sarfaraz reckons that these questions should not even be up for debate considering their countless contributions to their national team.
“People should not even talk about Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Their performances have been outstanding for India,” Ahmed told reporters here on Sunday as quoted by PTI
“Virat Kohli has won those matches for India, and I have seen it with my own eyes, you can’t imagine, the kind of performances he has produced for India. The same goes for Rohit Sharma. The way he is leading the team. He led the team outstandingly in the 2023 (ODI) World Cup and won the T20 World Cup,” he added.
Sarfaraz wants the star duo to take the call regarding their retirements. But until then he feels the team should continue to be centered around the star pair.
“Let them play and let them decide what they want to do. You should make your team around them. The way they bid adieu to T20Is, they will do it for other formats when they will feel it is time. You should not make a team by removing them, you should make teams by including them,” he said.
Both Rohit and Kohli will look to put in their best performances in the ongoing Champions Trophy 2025. The captain continues to deliver quick starts with the bat despite not being able to convert it to a big score, especially in the previous game against Bangladesh.
As far as Kohli is concerned, it remains to be seen if he can deliver the big scores. He recently scored a fifty against England in the final ODI but failed to contribute against Bangladesh earlier. Kohli’s lack of runs has been a big concern but it seems like the star man is being backed to come into form.
