Indian players can break multiple records during the four-match T20I series against South Africa, which starts on November 8 at Kingsmead in Durban.
The Indian men’s cricket team will face South Africa in a four-match T20I series, which is set to start on Friday (November 8). The series opener is scheduled to take place at Kingsmead in Durban, and the next three matches will be played in Gqeberha, Centurion, and Johannesburg on November 10, 13, and 15, respectively. India defeated South Africa by seven runs in the last T20I match played between the two teams in Barbados on June 29, 2024, and under the leadership of Suryakumar Yadav, the 2024 T20 World Cup winners would like to come up with a big show in the upcoming four matches as well.
Here’s a look at the list of records that can be broken during India-South Africa T20I series.
Most T20I runs for India vs SA: Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav will have a chance to overtake Rohit Sharma and become India’s leading run scorer in T20Is against South Africa. The 34-year-old right-handed batter has 346 runs to his name in seven matches played so far, and he needs 84 more runs to go past Rohit Sharma’s tally of 429 runs in 18 T20Is. The overall record of scoring most runs in India-South Africa T20Is is in the name of David Miller, who has amassed a total of 452 runs in 21 matches played so far.
Most runs vs SA in T20Is: If Surya manages to score 156 runs in the series, then he will break England’s Jonny Bairstow record and become the leading run scorer in T20Is against the South African team. Bairstow has 501 runs to his name in 16 T20Is.
3rd batter to hit 150 sixes in T20Is: Since making his T20I debut in March 2021, Surya has hammered 144 sixes in 74 matches for Team India. If he manages to hit at least six sixes in the upcoming series against Proteas, then he will become the third batter after Rohit Sharma (205) and New Zealand’s Martin Guptill (173) to hit 150 or more sixes in the shortest format of the game.
Most wickets for India in T20Is: Arshdeep Singh and Hardik Pandya both have 87 wickets each to their name in T20Is, and they will be in action for India in the away series against South Africa. If they manage to take at least 10 wickets in the upcoming four matches, then they will break Yuzvendra Chahal’s record of 96 wickets and become India’s leading wicket-taker T20Is. If Hardik or Arshdeep dismiss 13 batters, then he will become the first to take 100 wickets in T20Is for India.
Fastest pacer to take 100 wickets in T20Is: Arshdeep, who has 87 wickets to his name in 56 T20Is played so far for India, needs 13 wickets in the series against South Africa to become the fastest pacer in the world to take 100 wickets in T20Is. As of now, the record is in the name of Pakistani pacer Haris Rauf, who crossed the 100-wicket milestone in 71 matches.
Leading run scorer for South Africa in T20Is: David Miller needs 189 runs in four matches against India to break Quinton de Kock’s record of 2584 runs and become South Africa’s leading run scorer in the shortest format of the game.
