Three former South African cricketers Lonwabo Tsotsobe, Thami Tsolekile and Ethy Mbhalati have reportedly been arrested on corruption charges. The trio has been charged with five counts of corruption under Section 15 of Prevention and Combating of Corrupt Activities Act, 2004. These charges are related to their alleged involvements in fixing matches during the 2015 Ram Slam T20 series.

According to a report in ESPNcricinfo, the Tsotsobe, Tsolekile and Mbhalati are among seven cricketers who were banned by Cricket South Africa in 2016 and 2017 for attempt to fix matches during the T20 tournament.

The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI), a branch of South African Police Service, has levelled the charges after an investigation.

“Corruption undermines the integrity of sport, and the Hawks are determined to safeguard the values of fairness and professionalism in all areas of society. We thank Cricket South Africa for their cooperation and commitment to addressing this scourge,” Lieutenant General Godfrey Lebeya, National Head of the DPCI, was quoted as saying in a statement.
