Star India and Delhi Capitals wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul was on Friday seen trolling team mentor Kevin Pietersen, after the former England captain made a small detour and went for a family trip to the Maldives during IPL 2025, which has become a major topic of light-hearted discussions over the past week.
Pietersen missed Delhi’s game against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru on April 10, but the side managed to win that encounter. He was back in business by their next game against the Mumbai Indians on April 13.
Delhi has had a dream season till now, winning five of their six games and sitting comfortably on top of the points table.
In the now-viral video posted by DC on their social media handles, Pietersen can be seen exchanging pleasantries with Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill. “Good, what’s happening?” Gill asked back.
“Bro, what’s a mentor? No one knows what a mentor is. Can you tell me what a mentor is?” Pietersen was seen joking about his position.
“Mentor is someone who goes to the Maldives for two weeks mid-season,” Rahul replied, leaving Pietersen dumbfounded. Watch the video here:
Meanwhile, Mitchell Starc’s mastery of death overs will be up against Mohammed Siraj’s artistry when the high-flying Delhi take on a well-placed Gujarat in a high-voltage top-of-the-table IPL clash in Ahmedabad on Saturday, April 19.
The Capitals sit pretty at the top with 10 points from six matches, while the Titans trail close behind with eight from as many outings.
Confidence in the Delhi camp would be soaring after their dramatic Super Over victory over the Rajasthan Royals, but they would want to finish games within the stipulated 40 overs, rather than drag them to the brink.
Starc bowled three overs of pinpoint yorkers, including a nerve-wracking Super Over, to turn the match on its head against Rajasthan, and he will again be key against Gujarat.
Having skipped the Champions Trophy to freshen up after the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Starc has returned to the Indian Premier League recharged and razor-sharp.
