The former Indian cricketer Manoj Tiwary clarified his remarks regarding the Head Coach Gautam Gambhir when Aakash Chopra had accused the Bengal legend of hopping on the bandwagon of criticising the coach after India’s disappointing run as they crashed out of the World Test Championship in the 2023-25 cycle.
Tiwary had uploaded two videos on his social media handles where he responded to Aakash Chopra’s comments. The former had revealed in an interview some scathing opinions regarding Gambhir. But Chopra did not pay heed to his opinions and dismissed it as one that was just jumping on the trend.
“Aakash bhai said two things. I’m sure that he did not watch the entire interview, which was around 20 minutes long, and these few lines that came out, he might have only seen that. I would like to clear this,” Tiwary began his explanation.
He clarified that he did not hold any grudges with Chopra, and Tiwary just wanted to clear this misunderstanding out and hope that he latter is able to see his viewpoint.
“I respect him and his honest opinions. He said that I am washing my hand in the flowing Ganga (an idiom that indicates going with the flow) after people like Gavaskar and Manjrekar were also critical of Gambhir,” he shared.
I do not need to wash my hands in the Ganga. The river is close by itself; I can wash my hands whenever I want, but I don’t want to do that. I’ve not been keeping track of what people have been saying,” he added.
Both Tiwary and Chopra were strongly critical of Gambhir and the coaching staff after India’s disappointing tour of Australia, which resulted in India’s inability to qualify for the final. The tour also saw India’s senior duo of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in the spotlight for their lack of runs.
Gambhir and co will be keen on turning things around as they hope to put India back to winning ways and they would be keen on doing just that in the upcoming England series followed by the Champions Trophy 2025.
