Virat Kohli is celebrating his 36th birthday today. One of the finest batters of the modern era, Kohli is often called as the “greatest all-formats batter”. Having made his debut in 2008, he has carved for himself a career that has seen him win  break numerous batting records besides winning two world cup titles (2011 ODI World Cup, 2024 T20 World Cup), one ICC Champions Trophy, twice winning the  men’s cricketer of the year award and more.

Social media is flooded with birthday wishes with current and former cricketers to family members and fans posting their messages.

The 36-year-old’s sister Bhawna Kohli has a simple wish for his brother.

“May the divine light always shine upon you and may the kindness you spread come back to you in most amazing ways,” Bhawna wrote on one of her IG stories that include a couple of pictures with her brother.

Before making his international debut, Kohli first caught the nation’s attention after leading India to title win at the junior ODI World Cup in 2008. He didn’t instant success after graduating to the senior team but once he started peeling off centuries, there was no stopping him.

Today, Kohli has scored 27,134 runs across formats (118 Tests, 295 ODIs and 125 T20Is). He has 80 centuries in international cricket – the second most at his level.

On this very day last year, Kohli drew level with he legendary Sachin Tendulkar’s record of most ODI centuries – 49. He achieved the milestone during a league match of the ODI World Cup against South Africa.

Subsequently, with Tendulkar watching from the stands, Kohli surpassed his idol to set a new benchmark, becoming first ever cricketer to complete a half-century of centuries in ODI history.

Kohli will be next seen in action during India’s five-match Test tour of Australia that starts from November 22 in Perth. When playing Test in Australia, he averages a superb 54.08 having scored 1352 runs from 13 matches including six centuries and four half-centuries.
