Mumbai Indians posted a 9-wicket win over Chennai Super Kings at the Wankhede on Sunday in the 2025 edition of the IPL as the hosts chased down the target of 177 runs with 26 deliveries to spare.

CSK registered a total of 176/5 riding on fifties from Shivam Dube and Ravindra Jadeja, but MI made light of the chase as Rohit and Suryakumar stood unbeaten on 76 and 68 runs respectively to seal the win for the home team.

Chennai were put to bat first by Mumbai skipper Hardik Pandya, who won the toss and opted to field, as CSK opened the game with Shaik Rasheed and Rachin Ravindra. The opening stand was a rather brief one as the Kiwi fell rpey to young Indian seamer Ashwani Kumar for just 5 runs off 9 deliveries.

Ayush Mahtre, became CSK’s youngest ever player as he debuted for the five-time champions with a 32-run knock off 15 deliveries that steadied the CSK innings. The 17-year-old Mumbai-born batter entertained the crowd with 4 fours and a couple of sixes before former CSK-pacer Deepak Chahar removed the promising batter.

Another former CSK bowler, Mitchell Santner, removed Rasheed for 19 runs off 20 deliveries before Jadeja and Dube stitched up a 79-run stand for the fourth wicket.

Dube fell to star pacer Jasprit Bumrah after bringing up his 50 off 32 deliveries. The Indian seamer proved his value yet again as he scalped opposition skipper MS Dhoni for a paltry 4 runs off 6 deliveries to double up on his wicket tally on the day. Jadeja, who remained unbeaten at 53, alongside Jamie Overton who added 4 runs off his own, took the side’s total to 176 in their 20-over quota.

MI started the chase on a promising note as Ryan Rickelton and Rohit notched up a 63-run stand before the Protea batter was scalped by Jadeja for 24 off 19. However, that turned out to be the only wicket the hosts would lose on the day as Rohit and Suryakumar held their wicket with an unbroken 114-run partnership to take the home team over the line in stunning fashion to bring up their 4th win of the season and climb to sixth in the table. Chennai remained rooted to the bottom of the table as they fell to their sixth defeat of the campaign.
