Young India batter Yashasvi Jaiswal had an impressive start to the Border-Gavaskar Trophy having scored a century in the second innings of the Test series opener. Apart from his on-field excellence, Jaiswal’s cheeky sledge at Mitchell Starc has been a talking point too.
On the second day of the first Test, Jaiswal said, “It’s coming too slow,” after defending one of Starc’s deliveries.
Reacting to the sledge, Starc claims he did not hear what Jaiswal said.
Speaking ahead of the second Test, Starc told cricket.com.au, as per multiple reports, “I didn’t hear him say I bowled too slow. I won’t say too much to people these days. I may have been back in the day, but now I just sort of get on with it. Played that flick shot and I think I bowled pretty much the same ball and he defended it. I asked where the flick shot was and he laughed at me. We just left it at that.”
Jaiswal went on to score a brilliant century in India’s second dig. His 161 helped India clinch an emphatic 295-run win.
The second Test got off to a contrasting start with Mitchell Starc dismissing Jaiswal for a platinum duck on the very first delivery of the contest. Starc trapped the Indian LBW to give Australia a stunning start.
This is Jaiswal’s second duck of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy after being dismissed for an eight-ball duck in the first innings of the opening Test.
Following a short chat with Rahul, Jaiswal went back to the dressing room opting not to review the on-field decision.
This was after India captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and decided to bat first in this day-night encounter. Apart from Rohit returning to the XI, the visitors made two more changes for this Test.
Shubman Gill and Ravichandran Ashwin have been included with Devdutt Padikkal, Dhruv Jurel and Washington Sundar being benched.
