In the twilight of his playing career, MS Dhoni continues to set new benchmark. The Chennai Super Kings captain on Monday became the oldest player in IPL history to win player-of-the-match award surpassing the earlier record held by Pravin Tambe. Dhoni was given the award for his all-round show that saw him effect three dismissals besides playing an entertaining innings of 11-ball 26* that propelled CSK to a five-wicket win over Lucknow Super Giants on Monday night at the Ekana Cricket Stadium.

Dhoni won the award at the age of 43 years and 280 days. Prior to the five-time IPL winning captain, it was former spinner Pravin Tambe who held the record having won the award at 42 years and 208 days during IPL 2014.

Dhoni was though surprised at being chosen the recipient of the award indicating it should have gone to Noor Ahmad who bowled an economical spell giving away just 13 runs in his four overs.

It was the first time since IPL 2029 that Dhoni was become player-of-the-match.

Meanwhile, Dhoni continues to widen the gap between him and others in the list of most player of the match awards won by a captain in IPL history. So far, he has now claimed 17 such awards as captain with Rohit Sharma and Gautam Gambhir joint-second at 13 each.

Among the Indian players with most player of the match awards in IPL history, Dhoni is joint-second alongside Virat Kohli with each winning it 18 times. Rohit tops this list with 19 such awards.
