Legendary Indian cricketer MS Dhoni is playing for Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2025, and on Friday (April 25) he joined Rohit Sharma in an elite list by becoming the fourth Indian to play 400 or more T20 matches. The ongoing IPL 2025 match between CSK and Sunrisers Hyderabad at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai is Dhoni’s 400th T20 match. He played his T20 match on December 1, 2006, for India against South Africa in Johannesburg.
The overall record of playing most T20 matches is held by former West Indies all-rounder Kieron Pollard. In the last 19 years, Pollard has played 695 T20 matches for more than two dozen teams. He is followed by Dwayne Bravo (582) and Shoaib Malik (557).

Dhoni finished his T20I career with 1617 runs in 98 matches and has played a total of 273 matches in the IPL, which is the most by any player. In addition to that, the 43-year-old wicketkeeper-batter has also played in 24 Champions League T20 matches for the Chennai-based franchise across five seasons.
As a Chennai Super Kings player, Dhoni has made 267 T20 appearances and, with the help of 23 fifties, has scored 5252 runs.

Dhoni’s performance in IPL 2025
In the ongoing 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League, Dhoni has played all eight league matches for Chennai Super Kings and has amassed a total of 134 runs. He remained unbeaten on 26 runs against Lucknow Super Giants at Ekana Stadium on April 14, and for his super show with the bat, which also helped CSK snap the losing run of five matches, he won the Player of the Match award.
Dhoni, who is the most successful captain in IPL history, is leading CSK in the ongoing match against SRH. He was re-appointed as CSK captain for the remainder of the season after Ruturaj Gaikwad was ruled out on April 10 due to an elbow injury.
