As many as 12 uncapped Indian players were retained by IPL franchises ahead of IPL 2025 mega auctions, which are expected to take place next month. The franchises had the option to retain as many as two uncapped players, and eight out of 10 teams opted to exercise that rule. Of those eight teams, four—Kolkata Knight Riders, Gujarat Titans, Lucknow Super Giants, and Punjab Kings—have retained two players each.

Two players who have played for India at the international level were also retained as uncapped players due to the new IPL 2025 retention rule.

Here’s a look at 12 uncapped players retained ahead of IPL 2025 mega auctions:

MS Dhoni (CSK): Legendary Indian cricketer MS Dhoni will play in the IPL 2025 for Chennai Super Kings. He was retained for Rs 4 crore by the five-time champions. Dhoni is the most capped player in IPL history, but he was retained as an uncapped player due to the IPL 2025 retention rule, which states that if any player hasn’t played for India in the last five years, then he will be considered uncapped.

Harshit Rana (KKR): IPL 2024 champions retained uncapped Indian pacer Harshit Rana for Rs 4 crore. Rana has earned a India call-up for all three formats of the game but is yet to make his international debut. He dismissed 19 batters in IPL 2024 for the Shah Rukh Khan-owned side.

Ramandeep Singh (KKR): Kolkata Knight Riders also retained Indian all-rounder Ramandeep Singh for Rs 4 crore. The 27-year-old cricketer played 14 matches of IPL 2024 for the Kolkata Knight Riders and scored 125 runs with a strike rate of 201.61. Ramandeep can also contribute with the ball and has already made a big game for himself as a fielder.

Yash Dayal (RCB): Indian pacer Yash Dayal will play for RCB in IPL 2025 after being retained for Rs 5 crore ahead of mega auctions. Dayal, who is yet to play for India, joined RCB in the IPL 2024 auction, and in 14 matches, he dismissed 15 batters for the franchise.

Mohsin Khan (LSG): Uttar Pradesh-based pacer Mohsin Khan was retained for Rs 4 crore by Lucknow Super Giants. In the last three seasons of the cash-rich league for the Lucknow-based franchise, Mohsin dismissed 27 batters in 24 matches and has a bowling economy rate of 8.50.

Ayush Badoni (LSG): Ayush Badoni was the second uncapped player retained by LSG ahead of IPL 2025 mega auctions for Rs 4 crore. The Delhi-based cricketer has played 42 IPL matches so far and has 634 runs and two wickets to his name.

Sandeep Sharma (RR): Indian pacer Sandeep Sharma, who last played for Men in Blue in July 2015, was retained as an uncapped player by the Rajasthan Royals for Rs 4 crore. Sharma joined RR in 2023 as a replacement for Prasidh Krishna and impressed with his bowling in the last two seasons, which is why he was retained ahead of the likes of R Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Avesh Khan.

Abhishek Porel (DC): Bengal wicketkeeper-batter Abhishek Porel will play in the IPL 2025 for Delhi Capitals after being retained for Rs 4 crore by the franchise. The 22-year-old cricketer has 360 runs to his name in the 18 matches for the franchise.

Rahul Tewatia (GT): Rahul Tewatia joined Gujarat Titans for Rs 10 crore in IPL 2022 mega auctions and played in all matches for the franchise in the last three seasons. Since Tewatia has never played for India in any format of the game, he was retained for only Rs 4 crore.

Shahrukh Khan (GT): GT signed Tamil Nadu all-rounder for Rs 7.40 crore in the IPL 2024 auction, and in seven matches he scored 127 runs. Shahrukh is yet to make a big impact in the IPL but was retained by the Ahmedabad-based franchise for Rs 4 crore.

Shashank Singh (PBKS): Shashank Singh scored 354 runs in IPL 2024 for the Punjab Kings, and he was rewarded for his super show by getting retained by the franchise for Rs 5.5 crore. The franchise had the option to retain him for Rs 4 crore, but they still opted to play Rs 1.5 crore more to him.

Prabhsimran Singh (PBKS): Punjab-based wicketkeeper-batter Prabhsimran Singh has scored 756 runs in 34 IPL matches for the franchise. He has played only for PBKS in his IPL career and will earn Rs 4 crore.
