Mumbai Indians on Thursday (October 31) confirmed Hardik Pandya as captain for IPL 2025. The 31-year-old cricketer, who made his IPL debut in 2015, was one of the five players retained by the franchise ahead of IPL 2025 mega auctions. He was retained for Rs 16.35 crore. Apart from him, MI retained Jasprit Bumrah for Rs 18 crore, Suryakumar Yadav (Rs 16.35 crore), Rohit Sharma (Rs 16.30 crore), and Tilak Varma (Rs 8 crore).
Hardik re-joined MI ahead of the IPL 2024 auction last year and was made the captain in place of Rohit Sharma. Despite MI finishing last under his leadership in IPL 2024, the team management retained faith in him, and he will lead the side.
“Mumbai Indians proudly announce the retention of their core players—Jasprit Bumrah, Surya Kumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Rohit Sharma, and Tilak Varma, with Hardik set to lead the team as captain in the upcoming IPL 2025 season. These players, known for their outstanding performance and commitment, have been central to the Mumbai Indians’ success and are set to bring renewed focus, energy, and dedication to the team,” MI said in a statement.
Hardik has the experience of winning an IPL title as captain. He achieved the feat in 2022 with the Gujarat Titans.
