Ed Sheeran had some special guests on the opening night of his six-city India tour in Pune on Thursday, January 30. The Grammy-winning singer invited the England cricket team to his concert at Yash Lawn. Jos Buttler and his men were in Pune for the fourth T20I of the ongoing five-match series, slated to be held at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium on January 31. On the eve of the crucial game, the entire squad had a special meeting with Ed Sheeran who is in India as part of his ‘Mathematics’ tour. It was a soulful night in Pune as the British artist entertained the audience with some of his biggest hits.
Before the show began, Ed Sheeran caught up with the England cricketers and the support staff backstage. The ‘Shape of You’ singer also exchanged memento jerseys with Jos Buttler. Ed Sheeran was presented with an England shirt signed by all the players.
In return, he gifted Buttler an autographed jersey of the English football team, Ipswich Town. Ed Sheeran holds a minority stake in the Premier League club and is also one of their sponsors. England Cricket dropped some glimpses of the fun-filled meet-up on X (formerly Twitter) with the title– “A ‘Perfect’ evening!”

Jos Buttler also shared a picture with Ed Sheeran on Instagram, along with some stills from the concert. The duo was captured smilingly showing their respective memento jerseys while another photograph featured Ed Sheeran playing his guitar on the stage.
“A pleasure to meet you, Ed Sheeran, and watch you perform. Incredible talent! Got myself a new football team to support,” the England captain wrote in the caption.
Meanwhile, the England team aim to level the series by winning the Pune fixture. After losing the first two games, the visitors bounced back brilliantly in the third T20I in Rajkot. Buttler has been in swashbuckling form in the bilateral series. He has already registered 137 runs across three matches at a strike rate of over 140.
