Wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh became the center of love for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) fans as her unbeaten 27-ball 64 helped the defending champions chase down a record-breaking 202 in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 opener against Gujarat Giants (GG) in Vadodara on Friday.

The hard-hitting batter came to bat with the score at 100/3 at the start of the 12th over. She got dropped in the deep on her first ball off Priya Mishra’s leg spin and didn’t give GG another chance, smashing seven boundaries and four sixes in her knock. As Elysse Perry got out on the other end for her half-century, Ghosh mentored young Kanika Ahuja in her cameo of 30 (13) and the duo put up an unbeaten 93 runs together.

It was the highest-ever chase in the WPL history and the first of more than 200 runs. Following are some of the best social media reactions on Ghosh, who was also adjudged the Player of the Match:

Speaking after the match, Ghosh said, as quoted by Cricbuzz: ‘The plan was to take time and take it deep, I just tried to focus on my natural game. We always were positive and had the belief to chase this target. The preparation was really helpful because we had these kinds of targets and those situations really helped us. The plan was just to see the ball and hit the ball.”

RCB will now go against Delhi Capitals at the same ground on Monday.
