New Zealand are set to host England in a three-match Test series that pays tribute to the late Graham Thorpe and Martin Crowe. The winners of this bilateral face-off will claim the Crowe-Thorpe Trophy which has been designed with wood extracted from the willows of Thorpe and Crowe.
New Zealand head to the iconic home series high on confidence. In their last red-ball assignment against India, the Kiwis registered a dominant victory to secure a historic feat. They became the first-ever team to register a Test whitewash against India in their own backyard.
New Zealand, led by Tom Latham, will look to replicate the success against England. This time, they will have the home advantage. The hosts are going into the Test series with an experienced squad featuring the likes of Kane Williamson, Darryll Mitchell and Devon Conway.
Rachin Ravindra has also earned a call-up. The youngster will aim to make the most out of this home series to cement his place in the red-ball set-up. Tim Southee will lead New Zealand’s pace unit and will be assisted by Matt Henry and William O’ Rourke who has already impressed in his seven-Test career.
England, on the other hand, will continue with their aggressive batting lineup spearheaded by Harry Brook, Ben Duckett, Joe Root, Zak Crawley and Ollie Pope. Their bowling attack, however, is comparatively weak. During the New Zealand tour, England will miss the service of Mark Wood, who remains out due to a bone-stress injury in his right elbow. Besides captain Ben Stokes, Chris Woakes has been roped in as an all-rounder option.
The first Test between New Zealand and England will be played at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch from November 28. The second match is slated to begin on December 6 in Wellington while the third and final Test of the series will be hosted in Hamilton from December 14.
