After playing a key role in NZ-W’s T20 World Cup-winning campaign, Amelia Kerr now wins the ICC Women’s T20I Cricketer of the Year award.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced New Zealand’s Amelia Kerr as the winner of the annual Women’s Player of the Year 2024 award in the T20I format on Saturday.
Kerr who was nominated for the award alongside Sri Lankan skipper Chamari Athapaththu and South Africa’s captain, Laura Wolvaardt, emerged the winner following her stellar exploits leading New Zealand to their maiden ICC Women’s T20I World Cup 2024 that was held in the United Arab Emirates.
She finished the year with 18 games under her belt and taking 29 wickets. Her best performance for the year came in the game against their next-door neighbours, Australia when she finished with figures of 4/20 in her quota for the match that took place in MacKay on September 2024.
She also had a stellar T20 World Cup campaign, finishing as the highest wicket-taker in the 2024 edition, with 15 wickets from her six games. Her standout performance in the ICC event came against the Aussies once again picking up a four-fer in albeit a losing cause as Australia went on to win by 60 runs.

She finished off the year with 29 wickets from the shortest format. Only Sadia Iqbal and Deepti Sharma have more wickets than the New Zealand all-rounder for the year 2024.
Kerr also holds the second rank in the ICC Women’s T20I Rankings amongst all-rounders with West Indies’ Hayley Matthews currently occupying the top spot and is also the winner of the award in last year’s edition.
Kerr was a key member in the New Zealand setup and her tendency to pick up wickets proved to be crucial as the New Zealanders went on to lift the title by beating South Africa in the summit clash.
She also had her moments with the bat and finished the tournament with 135 runs, scoring a crucial 38-ball 43 against the Proteas to help set the platform for their chase and win the title along with being awarded the Player of the Tournament as well.
