Niki Prasad entered her name in history books on Sunday (February 2) by becoming the seventh Indian captain to win the U19 World Cup title.

Niki Prasad entered her name in history books on Sunday, February 2, by becoming the seventh Indian captain to win the ICC U19 World Cup title. The 19-year-old cricketer from Karnataka, who is part of Delhi Capitals in the Women’s Premier League, led India to the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup title win on Sunday. Under her leadership, India hammered South Africa by 9 wickets in the final played at Bayuemas Oval in Kuala Lumpur.

India chased down the target of 83 runs in 11.2 overs for the loss of one wicket.

G. Trisha (44) top-scored for India in the summit clash after dismissing three South African batters for 15 runs in her quota of four overs in the first half of the match.

Niki is the second Indian woman cricketer to win the U19 World Cup title as captain. In 2023, Shafali Verma led India to the U19 Women’s T20 World Cup title.

Mohammad Kaif (2000)

Mohammad Kaif was the first Indian captain to win the U19 World Cup title. Under Kaif’s captaincy, India won the 2000 U19 World Cup by getting the better of Sri Lanka by 6 wickets in the final played at Sinhalese Sports Club Ground in Colombo on January 28.

Virat Kohli (2008)

Virat Kohli led India to the U19 World Cup title win in 2008. India defeated South Africa by 12 runs (DLS method) in the 2008 U19 World Cup final played at Kinrara Academy Oval in Puchong on March 2.

Unmukt Chand (2012)

Unmukt Chand was the captain of the Indian team that defeated Australia by 6 wickets in the 2012 U19 World Cup final played at Tony Ireland Stadium in Townsville on August 26. In that match, Chand opened the innings for India and scored an unbeaten century (111).

Prithvi Shaw (2018)

India won the 2018 edition of the U19 World Cup under Prithvi Shaw’s leadership. The Prithvi-led side rode on Manjot Kalra’s century (101) on February 3, 2018, to chase down the target of 217 runs in 38.5 overs for the loss of two wickets against Australia at Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui.

Yash Dhull (2022)

Yash Dhull-led India defeated England by 4 wickets in the final of the 2022 U19 World Cup played at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua and Barbuda on February 5, 2022.

Shafali Verma (2023)

Shafali Verma was the captain of the Indian team that won the first edition of the U19 Women’s T20 World Cup. In the final played at Senwes Park in Potchefstroom on January 29, 2023, India dismissed England for 68 runs in 17.1 overs and then chased down the 69-run target in 14 overs for the loss of three wickets.

Niki Prasad (2025)

Niki Prasad led India to the second straight U19 Women’s T20 World Cup title win in 2025. Under her leadership, India won all seven matches, which also included a 9-wicket win over South Africa in the summit clash played at Bayuemas Oval in Kuala Lumpur on February 2, 2024.
