Speaking further Tejaswi Reddy added that most people felt her father was making the wrong decision. “They said we were making the wrong decision but my father was sure he was making a good decision. He always supported my brother and the thing I should tell is that my brother kept a promise and proved it himself,” she said.
Tejaswi Reddy also revealed how her family was tensed when Nitish Kumar Reddy was batting in the 90s. Recalling the knock, she claimed it felt like it was her who played the game. “It [was] like I am playing the game. It’s not him, it’s me and my family playing the game. We are really very proud of him… We were playing to God that it should be a century. We were very tense when it was 97, 99, but when it [became] a century, we were speechless. We are very happy and very proud,” she said.
Nitish Kumar Reddy was an unstoppable force during India’s first innings at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. With the visiting side’s top order failing to put up a fight, Nitish stepped in for the Rohit Sharma-led squad. He played 189 deliveries, scoring 114 runs. The 21-year-old smashed 11 boundaries and one six. Nitish completed his ton after hitting Scott Boland for a boundary over mid-on. The crucial century sparked celebrations in the India dressing room and amongst the batter’s family members who were also present inside the stadium.
While Nitish Kumar Reddy recorded individual success in Melbourne, it wasn’t enough to help India seal a victory. Australia blew away the Rohit Sharma-led side in their second innings, beating them by 184 runs. India now have one last opportunity to level the series in Sydney. The final match of the 2024/25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy will begin on January 3.
