Team India moved into the semifinal of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 as they topped their group with an unbeaten record in the three league stage games they played and will take on Australia in a heavyweight clash in the knockout round.
India have managed to move into the final-four of the event despite the absence of star pacer Jasprit Bumrah, who has been sidelined from the marquee tournament due to a lower-back injury.
Former cricketer Deep Dasgupta opined that any team across the globe would feel the absence of a pacer as stand out as Bumrah and added that a team missing out on a certified game-changer such as the seamer might be short-stiffed.
“Bumrah is the best in the world, and he is a match-winner,” Dasgupta began.
“So, if your team doesn’t have a match winner, they will have a shortcoming. But no matter how good they are, no matter who comes, you will always miss Bumrah. There is no doubt about that,” he continued.
Dasgupta stated that even if the men in blue go on to clinch the coveted piece of silverware his thought pertaining to the subject wouldn’t be altered which is a testament to the quality of Bumrah.
“The Indian team is missing Bumrah, and until he is not in the Indian team, they will miss Bumrah. Even if India wins the trophy, I will still say the same,” he added.
India had a helping hand from returning pacer Mohammed Shami, who stepped up in Bumrah’s absence and will look to give the Indian men a positive start with the leather against the Aussies. Dasgupta also touched upon Shami’s efforts in the ongoing ICC events and backed his stance up with the pacer’s impeccable record.
“But you can say that Shami is also a match-winner. And he is also in a good lane, and if you look at his records, he is no less than anyone. He has completed 200 wickets in ODI. If you look at his records, that is absolutely brilliant,” he added.
