KL Rahul breathed a sigh of relief after being caught-behind as Scott Boland was adjudged to have overstepped.

KL Rahul was reprieved twice in the same over of Australian fast bowler Scott Boland on the opening day of the first Test in Adelaide. Bowling his first ball of the contest, Boland seemed to have induced an edge from Rahul which was pouched by wicketkeeper Alex Carey. Rahul, who had started his walk back to the dressing room, was soon told to return to the crease after umpire Richard Illingworth indicated a no-ball.
And ultra-edge, during the replay, showed no spike suggested that there was no contact between the bat and the ball.
There was more drama in that over as Rahul got another lifeline. On the penultimate delivery of the over, Rahul was dropped by Usman Khawaja who was positioned in the slip cordon.
The Indian batter had played a defensive shot but ended up producing a thick edge that went low to Khawaja. He did manage to get a hand to it but failed to hold onto it.
Rahul, however, failed to make full of use the chances and produce a big score as he was dismissed by Mitchell Starc for 37.
Rahul and Shubman Gill though helped India get past the 50-run mark after they lost Yashasvi Jaiswal off the first delivery of the Test.
Soon after Rahul’s dismissal, Gill also returned to the dressing room scoring 31 runs off 51 balls.
Virat Kohli also failed to get going as he managed seven runs before being dismissed.
Mitchell Starc picked up the wickets of Kohli, KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal to earn a solid start for Australia in Adelaide. He finished with a six-wicket haul as India were bowled out for 180.
