A heated exchange between Virat Kohli and Sam Konstas on the opening day of the Melbourne Test became a big talking point. Kohli was said to have instigated the altercation with Konstas after shoulder-barging into the Australian debutant.

The confrontation drew the attention of match referee Andy Pycroft who slapped Kohli with a fine of 20 per cent of his match fee besides adding a demerit point to the Indian cricketer’s disciplinary record.

Konstas was later seen encouraging the crowd to cheer loudly when Virat Kohli was dismissed in India’s first innings of the contest.

Australia wicketkeeper Alex Carey though has rejected there’s animosity between the two despite what happened at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

“Not that I’m aware of… I think I saw a photo of them shaking hands and a little tap on the back. It’s Test cricket. I’m not 100 per cent sure, but Sam didn’t take it to heart,” Carey said on Wednesday.
