The former South African wicketkeeper-batter, Mark Boucher, reckons that KL Rahul has been the standout wicketkeeper-batter in the Indian Premier League 2025 season so far. Boucher also believes that India is blessed with having some of the finest glovesmen and looks sorted for the future.
Rahul has scored 200 games in the four games for Delhi Capitals so far. He currently averages at around 66.66 and has an impressive strike-rate of 163.93 as a middle-order batter for his new franchise.
His most impressive knock this season came against his former franchise, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, where he scored an unbeaten 93 to help DC get the win. The franchise has had a blistering start to their season, having won four games on the trot, followed by just one loss so far.
“If you look at IPL — I am not talking about MS Dhoni here as we are talking about the future — one player who has been sound with his ‘keeping and (has) batted ready well is KL Rahul,” Boucher, a JioStar expert, said in a select media interaction on Tuesday.
“He has played some fantastic innings. He made a comment the other night that I could relate to. He said when he keeps, he picks up a lot of information that he can use in his batting. He would be the standout keeper-batter in the IPL,” he added.
Interestingly, the last time KL Rahul played a T20I international was during the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia, where England beat the Men in Blue in the semi-final clash.
“Dhruv Jurel also has good hands, Rishabh Pant is improving all the time, he kept well last night. You are guys are in India, blessed with a lot of options,” said the 48-year-old who played 147 Tests, 295 ODIs and 25 T20s for the Proteas.
DC will be back in action for their second game at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, where they take on the inconsistent Rajasthan Royals. Rahul will be keen on getting some big runs on the board after his poor display against the Mumbai Indians in their previous game.
