The Vicky Kaushal-starrer Chhaava is expected to become Bollywood’s first blockbuster movie of the year 2025. The movie, based on a Marathi novel Chhava, chronicles the life of Chattrapati Sambhaji Maharaj – the second ruler of Maratha Confederacy. Vicky has played the role of Smbhaji Maharaj – the eldest son of Shivaji.

Having watched the movie, former India cricketer Aakash Chopra has asked why students aren’t being taught about Sambhaji Maharaj in schools.

“Watched Chhaava today. Incredible tale of bravery, selflessness and the sense of duty.

Genuine question – why were we not taught about Chattrapati Sambhaji Maharaj at all in school? Not even a mention anywhere!!!” Chopra wrote on X.

He contrasted that with the adulation afforded to Mughal rulers including Akbar and Aurangzeb.

“We did learn though how Akbar was a great and fair emperor, and even have a very prominent road called Aurangzeb Road in Delhi. Why and how did it happen??,” he added.
