The former Indian cricketer, WV Raman expressed his displeasure when reports had surfaced regarding tensions within the Indian Cricket Team ahead of the fifth and final Test in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia, set to be played at Sydney.
A report by the Indian Express suggested that Gautam Gambhir, the Head Coach of the Indian Cricket Team is reportedly frustrated with the poor performances from his side. According to the report, the coach gave the players the freedom to do their own thing with Gambhir claiming he let them do what he wanted for the ‘last six months,’ but with the lack of results, he would now determine how things would go in the longer format.
With the information that has come out, WV Raman, a former Indian Women’s Team Head Coach expressed how important it was for such information to not be revealed at a crucial juncture within the series.
#Teamindia has the chance to draw the #BGT. So, they need to be allowed to get on with their jobs. This is not the time to put out selective leaks and stoke the fire. My humble view. #AUSvINDIA#SCGtest— WV Raman (@wvraman) January 1, 2025
“#Teamindia has the chance to draw the #BGT. So, they need to be allowed to get on with their jobs. This is not the time to put out selective leaks and stoke the fire. My humble view” added Raman. Interestingly he was also in the running to become the men’s team’s Head Coach along with Gautam Gambhir but the BCCI opted for the latter to take over the role in place of Rahul Dravid after the T20 World Cup 2024.
The Indian team still has a chance of retaining the Border-Gavaskar title should they go on and win the final Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground. A win would also keep their chances of making it to the WTC final alive as well.
But the Australian team will be hungry to deliver that killer blow and reclaim the title for the first time since the 2014-15 season. Rohit Sharma and Co would have to put in their best performance to ensure that they are able to get the win.
