The 1952 Pakistan Tour of India featured a five-match Test series. The opening contest was won by India by an innings and 70 runs.
A jaw-dropping bowling performance from Vinoo Mankad made all the difference for the hosts. He put up figures of 8/52 and 5/79 across two innings as India sealed a victory in Delhi.
Pakistan needed a win in the second fixture to improve their chances of a series triumph and they did not fail to deliver.
The second Test saw India win the toss and elect to bat first. But the hosts’ lineup was not allowed to do much by the Pakistan bowlers.
Mahmood Hussain, Maqsood Ahmed and Fazal Mahmood delivered some crucial spells to keep India humble. They pounced at the top order, dismissing players like Datta Gaekwad for six runs, Gul Mohammad for a duck and Vijay Manjrekar for three runs.
Pankaj Roy scored 30 runs in the game to help India put up triple digits with a 106-run total.
Pakistan’s Nazar Mohammad took the match by storm. He remained unbeaten having registered a fine knock of 124 runs.
Another 41-run knock from Maqsood Ahmed and 34 runs from Zulfiqar Ahmed guided the visitors to 331. India had another shot to redeem themselves in the second innings but failed to step up again.
Fazal Mahmood outclassed India with a seven-wicket haul to curb them at 182. India’s Lala Amarnath was the top scorer for his side in the second innings playing an unbeaten knock of 61 but it was not enough for a win.
