Shafali Verma’s knock guided India to an 84-run win against the West Indies at the Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium.
On this day (November 9) in 2019, Shafali Verma scored a memorable half century against West Indies and set an incredible record. At the age of 15 years and 285 days, Verma became India’s youngest cricketer to score a half century in international cricket.
With this, Verma managed to break Sachin Tendulkar’s record.
The previous record was held by the Master Blaster who had scored a half century, at the age of 16 years and 214 days against Pakistan in 1989. Verma had achieved the feat while playing in her fifth T20I. In T20Is, she has so far scored five half centuries. She also enjoys a strike rate of 129.1 in T20I cricket.

Shafali Verma scored 73 off 49 deliveries. Her innings comprised six boundaries and four maximums. Verma and her opening partner Smriti Mandhana also put up a record-breaking performance in that game.

Verma was the first to be dismissed. Shakera Selman picked up the crucial wicket of Verma in the 16th over. Mandhana departed in the very next over producing a terrific innings of 67 off 46 balls.
Later, skipper Harmanpreet Kaur chipped in with a valuable contribution of unbeaten 21 off 13 balls. Anisa Mohammed and Shakera Selman claimed two wickets each for West Indies in the match.
West Indies did not have a fruitful start to their run chase losing both their opening batters – Hayley Matthews and Natasha McLean—in the first three overs. Wicketkeeper Shemaine Campbelle did try to offer a fightback but her efforts, eventually, went in vain. Campbelle was dismissed for 33.
West Indies managed to reach 101 at the loss of nine wickets. Shikha Pandey, Radha Yadav and Poonam Yadav bagged two wickets each to earn an emphatic 84-run win for India.
