Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma played a crucial knock of 68 off 51 balls to anchor the chase of 157 against Delhi Capitals, leading the defending champions to their fifth IPL title.

Mumbai Indians, five-time champions of the Indian Premier League (IPL), are among the most successful teams in the history of the tournament. Winning their first trophy in 2013, the franchise secured the title for a record fifth time on this day in 2020 at UAE’s Dubai International Stadium.
Chasing 157, captain Rohit Sharma led his team with a crucial 68 off 51 balls. With this victory, Mumbai Indians became the second team after Chennai Super Kings to successfully defend their IPL title.

Delhi Capitals, playing their first-ever IPL final, won the toss and chose to bat but struggled from the start. MI pacer Trent Boult struck early, dismissing Marcus Stoinis on the very first ball. Shikhar Dhawan, in good form, was also sent back shortly after, leaving DC in trouble at 22/3.
This is where captain Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant came together and started to rebuild.
Rishabh Pant brought up his first half-century of IPL 2020 but departed two balls later, with Delhi’s score at 118. The 96-run partnership, set Delhi Capitals up with a decent platform to accelerate in the final overs.
Shreyas Iyer stitched a balanced innings, completing his half-century in 40 balls and started to slog. Despite his efforts, the runs didn’t flourish much as MI bowlers kept their line and length tight in the last three overs conceding just 20 runs along with taking 3 wickets.

Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock started aggressively for Mumbai, pushing the score to 45 in just four overs. DC’s star bowler Kagiso Rabada conceded 18 runs in his first over.
Marcus Stoinis finally broke the partnership by dismissing De Kock in the fifth over. Suryakumar Yadav joined Rohit Sharma and quickly settled in, keeping the run rate high. A mix-up led to Suryakumar’s run-out with MI at 90 runs on the scoreboard.

Ishan Kishan and Krunal Pandya then guided Mumbai to victory, securing the win with eight balls to spare and five wickets in hand, clinching their fifth IPL title.
