Pakistan are set to host New Zealand and South Africa in a tri-nation ODI series. This one-off tournament provides all three teams with a platform to prepare for the ICC Champions Trophy, starting on February 19. The tri-series will get underway with a high-voltage clash between Pakistan and New Zealand. The match will be played at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Saturday, February 8, with the on-field actions beginning at 2:30 PM IST.
Pakistan have not featured in an ODI series since December last year when they whitewashed South Africa in a three-match assignment on home soil. The hosts’ bowling unit was credited for their dominance as the Proteas were unable to breach the 300-run mark in any of those games. A similar performance in the upcoming series will certainly boost Pakistan’s confidence ahead of the Champions Trophy.
Meanwhile, New Zealand played three ODIs against Sri Lanka last month. The Black Caps put up a commanding show in the first two games to seal the series. They, however, faced a batting collapse in the third ODI while chasing 290 in Auckland. New Zealand is expected to show improvement in the tri-series. After the campaign opener against Pakistan, they will face South Africa on February 10.
