The two-match Test series between Pakistan and West Indies is scheduled to start on Friday, January 17. The opening Test between Pakistan and West Indies will be played at the Multan Cricket Stadium. The series marks West Indies’ first visit to Pakistan in 19 years. Pakistan had made full use of the home conditions when England visited the Asian giants in October last year. Pakistan had clinched a 2-1 series victory against England back then. Pakistan made seven changes to their team after the 2-0 loss in South Africa. Captain Shan Masood, vice-captain Saud Shakeel, Babar Azam, Kamran Ghulam, Khurram Shahzad, Mohammad Rizwan, Noman Ali and Salman Ali Agha have been able to retain their spot in the squad.
Opener Imam ul Haq, who has been out of favour for over a year, has made a return to the squad. Imam had last featured in a Test match back in December 2023. He was dropped across formats because of poor form. An impressive show in the domestic circuit helped Imam in regaining his place in the Test squad this time.
Meanwhile, batter Amir Jangoo received his maiden call-up to the West Indies Test team. Spinner Gudakesh Motie has made his return to the West Indies Test side. The Caribbean side will miss the services of Shamar Joseph and Alzarri Joseph. While Shamar was out with an injury, Alzarri was not available for selection.
The second Test match, between Pakistan and West Indies, is set to start on January 25. The upcoming red-ball series will be the last one for both countries in the ongoing edition of the World Test Championship (WTC).
