Former Pakistani fast bowler Mohammad Amir, who played a big role in the Men in Green’s 180-run win over India in the final of the 2017 Champions Trophy, has made a bold prediction for the upcoming edition of the ICC event. According to Amir, who announced his retirement from international cricket for the second time last year, Pakistan will have an upper hand against India when the two teams face each other in the Champions Trophy next month. The high-voltage match between India and Pakistan in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is scheduled to take place at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on February 23. India, which has a 100% win record over Pakistan in the ODI World Cup, has only managed to win 2 out of five matches against Pakistan in the Champions Trophy.

In the last Champions Trophy match played between the two teams, Pakistan hammered India by 180 runs to win the 2017 edition of the tournament. According to Amir, who dismissed Rohit Sharma (0), Virat Kohli (5), and Shikhar Dhawan (21) in that match, considering recent performances, Pakistan will have an advantage.

“The way Pakistan has played recently—defeating Australia in Australia and then beating South Africa—shows their strength, especially in overseas conditions. Considering their recent performances, I think Pakistan will have the upper hand against India. However, India has always been my favourite in big tournaments. But the Indian team is under pressure and facing severe criticism due to their recent defeats,” Amir was quoted as saying by Times of India.

Star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah is dealing with a back injury these days and is a doubtful starter for India in the Champions Trophy 2025. Amir feels his absence from the squad will put immense pressure on the world No. 1 ODI team.

“It will be a huge loss to India if Bumrah isn’t there. He has been a top bowler for India, leading the pack from the front. Without him, the Indian bowling attack is reduced to 40-50 percent of its strength,” he said.

Bumrah was on fire for India in the recently concluded Test series against Australia. He played in all five matches and picked up 32 wickets, which is a record for taking the most wickets by an Indian bowler in a Test series played away from home.
