A member of MCC was struck on his head while taking a catch during the second day of 2nd Test between England and Sri Lanka.

An attempt at taking a catch proved painful for a spectator at the ongoing 2nd Test between England and Sri Lanka on Friday. Kamindu Mendis struck a six off Olly Stone in the 55th over and a member of the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) tried taking the catch while sitting outside the Lord’s pavilion but the ball burst through his palms and struck him on the head.

Stone was testing Mendis with short delivery and the Sri Lankan batter responded with an attempted hook shot which resulted in a top-edge that sent the ball flying over the wicketkeeper’s head. There were concerned faces all around after the MCC member copped the blow and the play was halted for a few moments.

The paramedics checked on the member who reportedly left the seating area but was later pictured speaking to Sri Lankan players. Mendis finished with 74 off 120 – the innings’ top-scorer as the tourists were bowled out for 196 in reply to England’s first innings total of 427-all out.
