Kamran Ghulam came out to bat at No. 5 for Pakistan in the first ODI against Australia but was only able to score five runs from six balls.
Australian men’s cricket team captain Pat Cummins bowled an unplayable bouncer on Monday (November 4) to take wicket of Pakistan batter Kamran Ghulam during the first ODI of the ongoing three-match series between the two teams. The 29-year-old right-handed batter came out to bat at No. 5 for the Mohammad Rizwan-led side at Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) but could only manage to score five runs from six balls. He was caught by Australian wicketkeeper Josh Inglis on the last ball of the 19th over.
Ghulam copied Australian batter Steve Smith’s antics to tease Cummins on the fifth ball of the 19th over, and the 31-year-old pacer took the revenge on the next ball. Ghulam had no answer to the unplayable delivery bowled by Cummins.
The video of Cummins taking wicket of Ghulam and celebrating it in an aggressive manner was shared online by cricket.com.au, and within no time it went viral on the internet.
At the time of Ghulam’s dismissal, Pakistan was reeling at 70 for 4 in 19 overs. The right-handed batter was included in Pakistan’s ODI team after he scored a century on his Test debut against England in Multan last month. He was added to the Test squad in place of Babar Azam, and after coming out to bat at No. 4, he hammered 118 runs.
For Pakistan, in the first ODI match since the ODI World Cup 2023, captain Mohammad Rizwan top-scored by making 44 runs. He however faced 71 balls to score 44 runs. Apart from him, pacer Naseem Shah contributed 40 runs from 39 balls. During his stay at the crease, Naseem smashed one four and four sixes.
But despite that, the visitors could only manage to score 203 runs in 46.4 overs after they were invited to bat first by Cummins.
Star Australian pacer Mitchell Starc picked up three wickets for 33 runs in his quota of 10 overs, and two Pakistani batters each were sent back to the pavilion by Cummins and Adam Zampa.
The star spinner dismissed former Pakistani batter Babar Azam for 37 runs from 44 balls. Zampa breached Babar’s defence and shattered his stumps.
