India’s star all-rounder, Ravindra Jadeja has credited his recent appearance in the Ranji Trophy as the reason behind his return to form with the ball after his stellar displays in the first two ODI games against England.
Jadeja has been outstanding during the ongoing series against England. He was the standout bowler for the Indian bowling attack for both games, picking up three wickets in each match. Speaking after India’s win by four wickets in the 2nd ODI at Cuttack, Jadeja highlighted the need to rise to the challenge that comes with the format.
“It feels really good. I am playing (50-over format) after almost two years (15 months)… after the 2023 World Cup. In this format, there’s a need to adapt quickly,” Jadeja said, as quoted by Cricbuzz.
The all-rounder had a fine display during Saurashtra’s Ranji Trophy clash against Delhi in their penultimate game in the group stage. He finished with 12 wickets across both innings, having bowled 30 overs in the process.
Jadeja pointed out that his one domestic appearance ensured that he found his rhythm and maintained a similar line and length in both Tests and ODI cricket.
“I believe playing in the one domestic game helped me because in that game I bowled 30 overs because of which my rhythm was intact. I try to bowl almost the same line and length in one-dayers as I do in Tests. So, the continuity was there because of the domestic game I played, and it helped me,” Jadeja commented.
The BCCI had released a mandate which required all the contracted players to actively take part in domestic games for their respective state sides if they were not participating in international cricket. This saw the return of senior stars like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Jadeja among the few who made their return to India’s premier domestic tournament.
With Jadeja looking in good touch with the ball, India will hope to build on this as they look ahead to the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025. The tournament will be held in Pakistan and Dubai, UAE where the latter will play host to all of India’s games including the knockouts, should the Indian team qualify.
